Dr TRUSDALE’S AVIATON MEDICAL BACKGROUND
.
In the mid 1980’s Dr Trusdale, through his Emergency Medicine training, became the Medical Director of the Thunder Bay Branch of the
Ontario
Air Ambulance Programme.
At that time he took what were then known as Ambulance Attendants and trained then into fully certified advanced life support critical care paramedics.
During those years he was the Chair of the McKellar Hospital Air Ambulance Base Hospital Programme
He sat on the Ontario Air Ambulance Medical Advisory Committee
He was a founder, and executive
member,
of CAATS – Canadian Association of Aeromedical Transport Systems-
- This involved him flying in all 5 dedicated Ontario Air Ambulances
- at that time known as the BANDAGE fleet-. This has now evolved into what is called ORNGE.
Bandage 3 in
Thunder Bay was a Sikorsky S76 helicopter
Once the programme was set up and running he took a year’s sabbatical in
Australia spending much of it working with the Royal Flying Doctor Service at
Cairns base,
in far north
Queensland
Since that time he has done Aviation Medicals and takes particular delight in seeing the paramedics he trained now leaders in their field as well as enjoying watching the students at
Confederation
College’s Flight Management programme develop into pilots
I am always happy to offer my help and advice, in any way I can, to promote medical safety and education in the aviation environment.
Feel free to call me at 807-577-4888 if you have Aviation Medical concerns
