Dr. Stephen Lutzak founded the clinic in 1991. He saw a need for a specialized clinic for the many patients in Thunder Bay and region with the very common problem of varicose veins. Dr. Lutzak took special training at the Lancot Clinic in Toronto. He studied under physicians who had done their initial phlebology (study of diseases of veins) training in France. Dr. Trusdale spent six months training with Dr. Lutzak. He now restricts most of his practice to the assessment and treatment of varicose veins. Since the clinic started, several thousand patients have been treated with veins ranging in size from large and symptomatic to small and cosmetic.
